Improve the competitiveness of pig farming with a focus on the value chain of producers in the district of Torata, Moquegua.

The incorporation of appropriate technology in animal health, biosecurity and infrastructure and improvement of feeding to reduce rearing time. This allows to achieve quality meat and a greater quantity of live weight, reducing the family’s workload and increasing economic income in less time and with less investment.

Fortalecimiento de la sociedad civil

Strengthening of four organizations dedicated to raising pigs and their representation in local dialogue tables before authorities, public officials, mining companies and private actors in the production chain.

Modelos efectivos

  • The improvement of good livestock practices in the rearing of pigs in health, handling and feeding, which allows reducing the fattening time from 150 days to 115 days with average carcass yields to 50 kg. In this way, the quality of life of the member families is improved.
  • The improvement of the quality of the carcass, obtaining leaner carcasses with little fat coverage, therefore, a better quality and sale price of the meat.
  • The improvement of biosecurity and rearing management through the demonstration installation of the water system and foot baths, obtaining a reduction in the mortality rate from 15% to less than 5%.


  • It is important to implement teams and develop new capacities to meet the demands of the new challenges of the markets and the indicators of success of the participants in the projects.
